This course is designed for personnel responsible for implementing local risk controls in work-at-height situations. It is particularly suited for individuals in supervisory roles overseeing teams working at heights.

Participants will engage with a variety of height-related risk scenarios, learning to implement safe working procedures in line with legislative and regulatory requirements. Key areas covered include hazard identification and risk assessment, where students will identify potential hazards, assess risks, and determine unacceptable risks associated with working at heights. They will also learn about risk control implementation, applying appropriate risk treatments and control measures to mitigate identified hazards.

Understanding and adhering to regulations and legislative requirements governing safe work at heights is a key component of the course. Additionally, participants will gain knowledge on the proper selection, use, and maintenance of fall-arrest systems and devices, following the guidelines for height safety supervisors as outlined in AS/NZS 1891.4 Recommended core training elements and performance criteria, Target group: Height safety supervisor . The course also covers the implementation of emergency rescue plans, ensuring preparedness for height-related incidents.

By the end of the course, participants will have the skills and knowledge to effectively manage and supervise work-at-height activities, ensuring safety and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. This course is ideal for height safety supervisors responsible for managing and supervising work-at-height activities. A Height safety supervisor is described in AS/NZS 1891.4:2009 as 'training and assessment in skills needed to perform harness based work at heights unsupervised, to supervise entry level and other operators, and to participate in first responses rescue".

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Refresher Face to Face contact time of at least 7 Hours
Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 11 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 4 Hours 30 Mins

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Psychological and physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstrations for this course, such as the requirements to work safely at heights wearing appropriate PPE and using appropriate fall protection equipment. Participants will need sufficient physical ability to lift equipment infrequently from ground to overhead and access heights above 2m.
  • Protective slip resistant footwear/safety shoes and comfortable/practical clothing must be provided by the student and worn during the practical sessions and assessment.
  • Basic computer skills to complete workplace forms and reports.

Individuals undertaking this course set will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Documentation:

  • Completion of two site-based Risk Assessment (JSEA/SWMS) forms

Theory assessment:

  • A written assessment consisting of short-answer and multiple-choice questions
